Did you know that the textile industry is the second most polluting industry in the world, only surpassed by the oil industry and its derivatives? Every year, more than 1,200 tonnes of polluting gases are emitted in the manufacture of around 150,000,000,000 million garments and, of the total, approximately 90,000,000 end up in landfill within a short period of time. Given such figures, it is clear that we are not making the right use of the clothes we buy.
Polyester, for example, is often used for sportswear because it is lightweight, stretchy, moisture-wicking and inexpensive, but it is made from petroleum and antimony, two toxic substances that can even cause skin rashes or affect our immune system.
Faced with a model that is gaining more and more weight, there are shops that base their raison d'être on the circular economy in order to be able to reuse products or objects.
In addition, items made for sports, such as bicycles, skiing equipment, backpacks, hiking boots or climbing accessories, for example, are difficult to recycle and often remain in good condition even after years of use. However, there are alternatives for making the most of these items.
Faced with a model that is gaining more and more weight, there are shops that base their raison d'être on the circular economy in order to reuse products or objects that are still in good condition, but that the people who own them no longer have any use for them. These types of shops seek to reduce waste to a minimum, keeping materials within the economy wherever possible.
In this sense, going to second-hand shops, both to buy and to sell, is a very good option to reduce the emission of gases into the atmosphere and reduce global warming, reduce water consumption and wastewater discharge, avoid harming the planet and ourselves with the chemicals and fertilisers that are used in this industry and to which we are exposed and, of course, benefit our own economy and that of the people around us.
Com Nou is one of the shops located in Andorra that favours the reuse of products that are still in perfect condition and, therefore, collaborates in the reduction of pollution and excessive consumption. Specifically, it sells second-hand sports equipment, clothing and accessories. In its shop, located in the country's capital, they have articles for skiing, snowboarding, cycling, mountain biking, trekking, mountaineering, running and climbing, among other sports. Some of this material is even unused. The equipment that has been used by another private individual is still in excellent condition and at least 50% cheaper than the original price.
