We can see a photograph belonging to Meritxell, the most symbolic sanctuary in the whole Principality of Andorra, located between the parishes of Encamp and Canillo and belonging to the parish of Canillo.
This monastery is the only one in Andorra that has been classified as a minor basilic, a title granted by the Pope Francis in 2014. This recognition makes Meritxell part of the Marian Route, where there are 4 more sanctuaries, which are the Pilar, Montserrat, Torreciudad and Lourdes.
An anecdote is that in 1972 the sanctuary of Meritxell burned down leaving it practically razed, today this sanctuary is used as a museum, and the main sanctuary is the work of the Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill.
