The Principality of Andorra is one of the 21 countries without their own armed forces. Indeed, the country does not have a defense ministry, nor does it have an army. However, according to various treaties with its neighboring countries, the security of Andorra is under the responsibility of France and Spain.
On the other hand, the principality has what they call the Somaté. This is the equivalent of an army and is summoned on extraordinary occasions. By law, all men between the ages of 21 and 60 who are capable of fighting must present themselves at the call of the Somaté. This is also the reason why every family head must have a rifle at home, although the law considers the distribution of weapons if necessary.
Anyways, Andorra has a very effective national security system, which makes the country one of the safest places in the world, with a very low crime rate.
